UK pushes Jackdaw and Rosebank approvals after BP North Sea exit

The Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) has urged UK ministers to grant swift approvals for the Jackdaw and Rosebank offshore projects. The call follows BP’s announcement that it is seeking a buyer for its North Sea business, which the chamber says heightens uncertainty and threatens investment in the sector.

AGCC argues that the projects, together valued at about £29 billion, would protect thousands of jobs and generate more than £1 billion in tax revenue this Parliament. It stresses that environmental assessments must weigh the emissions from domestic production against the higher carbon footprint of importing energy. The chamber cites its Energy Transition Survey, where 93 % of businesses believe the North Sea can still thrive if a supportive fiscal and regulatory framework is provided, and calls for replacing the Energy Profits Levy with the promised Oil & Gas measures.
