UK rail disruptions affect Glasgow and Manchester commuters

Scotrail announced that on Saturday 8 August and Sunday 9 August all train services between Cathcart and Maxwell Park in Glasgow will be suspended, closing the Cathcart Circle and routes to Newton, Neilston and the city’s south‑side. Passengers are advised to use alternative stations such as Barrhead, Pollokshaws West, Giffnock, Clarkston, Cambuslang and Rutherglen, or the free McGill’s 3 bus service between Neilston and Glasgow.

In Greater Manchester, an electricity supply failure at a communications centre caused a major signalling outage on 6 August, extending into 7 August. The disruption affected Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales services. National Rail warned of continued chaos, urging passengers to avoid travel before 10:00 am and to check journeys in advance while engineers work to restore services.
