UK rail services halted by overhead wire faults

A failure of the electricity supply between Perry Barr and Bescot Stadium in the West Midlands caused widespread delays, alterations and cancellations on routes including Birmingham New Street to Shrewsbury. National Rail confirmed the disruption would last until the end of the day, with replacement buses operating between Birmingham New Street and Walsand and between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley.

In Cambridgeshire, a fault affecting the overhead wires forced the closure of the line between Ely and Kings Lynn. All services were suspended for the rest of the day, with a rail‑replacement bus running between the two stations and an hourly shuttle service between London King’s Cross and Ely. Network Rail and engineers are inspecting the overhead lines to prevent further damage.
