UK residents face rising financial pressure and emergency cost struggles
Recent reports indicate growing financial strain among UK adults. Research from First Actuarial shows that 32% of respondents would struggle to meet an unexpected emergency cost of £1,000 without borrowing money. While 87% of individuals report feeling comfortable paying monthly bills, only 52% are actively saving for short-term goals, and 11% do not save regularly.
Separately, a report commissioned by Standard Life found that 26% of UK adults are finding it difficult to live on their current income, a slight increase from 24% the previous year. The study also highlighted retirement concerns, noting that 63% of people worry they are not saving enough for the future. While 79% of those aged 18 to 59 believe they could continue their current line of work at age 60, that confidence drops to 48% for those reaching age 70.
