UK retailers report surge in screen-free toy sales
Retailers in the United Kingdom are reporting an increase in the sales of screen-free toys this Christmas season. This trend follows heightened scrutiny regarding the impact of technology on children, including a social media ban for those under 16 announced by Sir Keir Starmer.
The Entertainer reported that all ten of its top predicted Christmas toys are screen-free. Similarly, Smyths Toys noted that screen-free play is making a comeback as families attempt to limit device usage.
Geoff Sheffield, buying director at The Entertainer, stated there is a growing appetite for hands-on, imaginative, and traditional educational toys. He noted that while screens are a major part of modern life, there is a strong demand for analogue play, driven by both children and nostalgic parents.
