UK road accidents close sections of the A57 and M1

A serious collision between a car and a lorry on the A57 near Darlton in Nottinghamshire on 19 June 2026 caused a vehicle fire and a large smoke plume. Police closed the road in both directions between East Markham and Darlton, advising drivers to avoid the area while investigations continued.

A separate incident occurred on 18 June 2026 near junction 24 of the M1, where a car and a motorcyclist collided on B5010 London Road at the Derbyshire‑Leicestershire border. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital; the car driver incurred minor injuries. The road was closed for several hours and reopened shortly after midnight on 19 June.

Both accidents prompted police investigations and temporary road closures, with traffic redirected and motorists urged to exercise caution.
