UK road works on Exeter gas line and M25 Wisley upgrade disrupt traffic

Essential gas works conducted by Wales & West Utilities have closed a section of Cowick Lane near Exeter’s Sainsbury’s store. The closure, part of a £1.9 million project to upgrade over 6.5 km of gas pipes, began on July 27 and is expected to last until September 1, with drivers diverted via Alphington Road and Cowick Street.

Separately, National Highways has completed the four‑year Wisley Interchange upgrade at Junction 10 of the M25. The project involved a weekend‑long closure of the motorway, the construction of new gantries, bridges and the UK’s first heathland green bridge, and the addition of a fourth lane on the A3. The improvements aim to ease traffic flowing to Heathrow and Gatwick airports and support new housing and jobs in the South East.

Both projects illustrate major infrastructure investments in the United Kingdom that, while intended to improve long‑term resilience and capacity, have caused temporary traffic disruptions for motorists.
