UK retailers issue urgent safety recalls for mugs, bags, and toys
Multiple product safety warnings and recalls have been issued across the United Kingdom involving supermarkets and online retailers.
Tesco has recalled its F&F Home Glass Latte Mugs due to a manufacturing defect that makes the glass prone to breaking during normal use. Additionally, Sainsbury's and Argos have recalled three specific tote bags from the Tu clothing range after testing revealed excessive concentrations of phthalates, which can cause reproductive harm.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued an alert regarding certain baby sleeping bags, warning that those lacking armholes or featuring hoods pose risks of overheating and suffocation.
Furthermore, consumer protection officials are investigating “squishy” or “fidget” toys sold online, including via Amazon and AliExpress, that are supplied with medical syringes and needles. These products have been linked to injuries, including a child being treated at A&E after being pierced by a needle from a “pimple popper” toy. Minister for consumer protection Kate Dearden confirmed an active investigation into these items.
