UK schools implement sustainable energy and construction projects

Educational institutions in the United Kingdom are adopting advanced energy management and sustainable construction practices to reduce costs and environmental impact.

In Coventry, Ash Green School has unveiled a £70,000 energy management installation designed by YLEM Energy. The system, which will be rolled out across the school’s maths block, aims to reduce energy consumption and costs by approximately one-third over the next four years. The installation includes upgraded energy controls, gas monitoring, and reporting facilities to improve site efficiency.

In Port Talbot, Wales, a new primary school, Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg (YGG) Rhosafan, is being developed with a focus on high energy efficiency. The project, a partnership between Mitie and Morgan Sindall Construction, aims for BREEAM Excellent certification and an EPC A+ rating. The facility will feature a 291.51kWp solar PV system, a solar car port, air source heat pumps, and smart LED lighting. Scheduled to open in September 2027, the school will serve 420 pupils.
