UK shoppers face higher food costs, seek recipe ideas online
A Florette survey finds that 75% of British consumers discover recipes, meals and food trends on social‑media at least once a week, with 40% doing so daily. Younger adults lead the trend – 89% of 25‑34‑year‑olds report weekly online food inspiration, and 84% say they try dishes they see online.
Separate research by the Choose British Peas campaign shows UK shoppers are now spending about £120 more per month on food than a year ago. To cope with the price rise, 34% are reducing fresh fruit and veg, and 82% fail to meet the recommended five‑a‑day. Many are switching to supermarket own‑label products and frozen produce, with 31% favouring frozen over fresh items. Peter Judge of Choose British Peas highlighted that frozen vegetables retain nutrients and can help lower food waste, while Polly Davies of Florette said online trends are moving into everyday meals, making salads and other dishes more generous and colourful.
