UK SMBs face technology adoption gap
Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) face a growing divide between those capable of adopting new technologies and those struggling to keep pace. Research from Babble indicates that over one-third of UK SMBs risk being left behind by competitors due to a lack of confidence and the necessary processes to identify, adopt, and scale technologies like AI and automation.
While innovation is increasingly accessible, fewer than half of SMB leaders feel highly confident in their ability to deploy new technologies successfully. This confidence gap creates a cycle where businesses that successfully scale technology become better equipped for future decisions, while hesitant businesses fall further behind.
Inefficient or outdated systems can hinder growth by increasing administrative burdens and quietly raising operational costs. For service-based businesses, failing to automate repetitive tasks such as invoicing, data entry, and scheduling can reduce productivity and profitability by consuming time that could otherwise be spent on value-added work.
