UK Sport commits record £33 million to British winter Olympic and Paralympic athletes for 2030 Games
UK Sport announced a record investment of more than £33 million for British winter Olympic and Paralympic athletes over the four‑year cycle leading to the 2030 Winter Games (Alpes 2030). The funding includes an £8 million increase from the previous cycle and builds on the more than £25 million invested across 11 sports before the Milan‑Cortina 2022 Games, which delivered Britain’s best Winter Games performance – a 15th‑place finish, five medals and three golds.
The new money will be allocated to curling, wheelchair curling, skeleton, snowsport, bobsleigh and ice‑skating programmes, with £445,000 earmarked as “transition funding” for ice hockey to develop a commercially sustainable performance model. UK Sport said the investment is made possible by the National Lottery and the UK Government and reflects its belief that the current cohort has greater potential for Alpes 2030.
“Today’s announcement reflects UK Sport’s belief that whilst Milan‑Cortina marked an historic moment for British winter sport, the current British winter sport cohort have even more potential for Alpes 2030, which they must be supported to achieve if the UK is to cement its position as an ever‑greater force in winter sport,” the body said.
