UK supermarkets recall pre‑packaged apple and kiwi packs over Salmonella

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an urgent recall of several pre‑packaged fruit products containing apples and kiwi after tests detected Salmonella. The recall affects ready‑to‑eat fruit pots and snack packs sold by major UK supermarkets including ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, M&S and Waitrose. Supplier PrepWorld withdrew the items, which carry best‑before or use‑by dates of 23‑24 June. The FSA said, "Prepworld is recalling the above products" and instructed retailers to display point‑of‑sale notices.

Customers are advised not to consume the products and to return them to the store for a full refund. The agency warned that young children, people over 65 and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness from Salmonella. The recall follows a similar alert issued a year earlier for a Lidl snack product.

The FSA urges anyone who purchased the affected fruit packs to discard them or seek a refund, emphasizing the importance of hydration and medical care if symptoms appear.
