UK support for rejoining the EU reaches post-Brexit high
Support for the United Kingdom rejoining the European Union has reached its highest level since the Brexit vote, according to polling expert Professor Sir John Curtice. Data indicates that 61 per cent of Britons now say they would vote to rejoin, while 39 per cent would prefer to remain outside the bloc.
Sir John noted that while the average has shifted considerably, the 2016 referendum voters largely maintain their original stances. Only 18 per cent of Leave voters now support rejoining, compared to 11 per cent of Remainers who would stay out. The shift is attributed largely to a new generation of voters who were too young to participate in the 2016 vote and are heavily in favor of rejoining.
Despite the high figures, Sir John warned that a future referendum remains on a “knife edge” and would depend on how the political argument is framed. He suggested that political leaders must actively engage with the topic to capitalize on the current shift in public opinion.
