UK survey finds one in ten Britons haven’t bathed in a decade as showers dominate

A survey commissioned by energy supplier Utilita and conducted with 2,000 British adults reveals that 10% of respondents have not taken a bath in more than ten years. Nearly half (48%) now prefer showers, while 18% of households no longer have a bathtub at all.

Renovations are removing baths to create larger shower spaces, with a fifth of participants reporting a bath was taken out for a bigger shower, bathroom modernisation, or conversion to a walk‑in shower. Environmental and cost concerns drive the shift: 77% say they are mindful of water usage, 35% have switched to showers to save water, and 90% take deliberate steps such as limiting shower time, collecting rainwater, or re‑using grey water. Utilita’s spokesperson highlighted the trend as part of broader efforts to reduce household water bills and environmental impact.
