UK swears in Ellie Reeves as Attorney General and Andy Slaughter as Solicitor General
The United Kingdom has officially sworn in Ellie Reeves KC MP as Attorney General and Andy Slaughter MP as Solicitor General during a ceremony at the Royal Courts of Justice on October 1, 2026. The ceremony followed their initial appointments in July.
Reeves stated that tackling violence against women and girls remains her “top priority” in her new role. She also emphasized her commitment to ensuring the legal profession remains accessible to individuals from all backgrounds.
Andy Slaughter, who previously served as Chair of the Justice Select Committee, expressed his intention to work with Reeves to address existing pressures and challenges within the justice system to maintain public confidence. Additionally, Alex Norris MP was sworn in as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.
