UK teacher Jamie Varley sentenced to extra seven years for child sexual assault
Jamie Varley, a 37‑year‑old former head of year at a Blackpool secondary school, appeared at Preston Crown Court via videolink from HMP Wakefield. He had already been given a whole‑life term for the murder of his adopted infant, 13‑month‑old Preston Davey, and for 24 other offences.
During the brief two‑minute hearing under the court’s “slip rule”, Mr Justice Turner added a seven‑year sentence for a count of sexual assault on the child. The term will run concurrently with Varley’s existing whole‑life tariff and has no practical effect on his imprisonment. Varley’s partner, John McGowan‑Fazakerley, also appeared via videolink and is serving a 25‑year sentence for facilitating the abuse. A social‑services inquiry into the case remains ongoing.
