UK TikTokers Find Mixed Quality in Supermarket Salmon Across Price Ranges
Two popular TikTok food reviewers conducted blind taste tests of salmon fillets sold by major UK supermarkets. Yasmin compared three brands – Marks & Spencer’s Caledonian Gold, Tesco’s responsibly sourced fillets and Lidl’s budget option – noting that the M&S product was the most marbled and firm, Tesco’s was softer after rinsing, and Lidl’s was the widest but flattest piece.
Becca expanded the comparison to eight different supermarket salmon offerings, ranging from Aldi’s £2.99 Essential salmon to premium Loch Fyne at £10. She praised Aldi’s fillets for their buttery texture and flavor, awarding them an 8.5/10 rating, and also evaluated mid‑price options from Sainsbury’s and other chains, highlighting the variation in taste that does not always align with price.
Both reviewers concluded that price is not a reliable indicator of salmon quality, with lower‑priced products sometimes matching or exceeding the taste of premium brands.
