UK to Join NATO Defence Bank to Fund Defence Spending

The United Kingdom is evaluating membership in the NATO Defence, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB), a financing vehicle proposed at the 2025 NATO summit to raise £100 billion for loans to NATO governments and defence firms. Finance minister John Healey, a former defence minister, said expanding defence‑industry spending will be a top priority as the government seeks to meet its target of raising defence outlays to 3.5 % of GDP by 2035.

The DSRB, led by Canada, is intended to provide additional capital for member states’ military projects. Joining the bank would allow the UK to tap this pool of funds to support its heightened defence budget and related procurement plans.
