UK tourism sees 20% rise in July visitors as Japan attracts British travelers

The United Kingdom is experiencing a significant recovery in its tourism sector, with foreign visitor numbers reaching 4.5 million in July, a 20% increase compared to the same month last year. According to data from the Office for National Statistics, this growth reflects a sustained rebound following the pandemic. To support this influx, VisitBritain and local industries are working to improve services and promote lesser-known regions. The UK government is also expanding 4G mobile networks in rural areas and national parks to enhance digital infrastructure for travelers.

In Asia, the recovery is also evident, with a 24.1% increase in South Korean visitors to the UK between January and July. Meanwhile, Japan is seeing a surge in interest from British travelers, particularly among the 20-30 age demographic. Driven by social media trends and the weak yen, the number of British tourists visiting Japan rose by 24.8% last year. While this provides economic benefits, the influx has sparked debates regarding overtourism in Japanese locations like Kyoto and near Mount Fuji, leading some local municipalities to implement stricter regulations.
