UK trains derail in two separate incidents within 24 hours

Two separate passenger train derailments have occurred in England within a 24-hour period.

The first incident took place near Wickford station in Essex, approximately 50 km east of London. Reports indicate that the rear carriages of the train left the tracks and were in a “vertical position.” Emergency services, including police, fire, and medical teams, responded to the scene. National Rail stated that investigations into the cause are ongoing and warned of significant travel disruptions.

The second incident occurred near Lewes in Southeast England, involving a train traveling from London to Eastbourne. Three carriages derailed, resulting in 11 injuries, including two people who were seriously wounded. While some passengers were initially trapped, all were eventually evacuated safely. The British Transport Police and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch are working to determine the cause of the derailment.
