UK travellers favor staycations and off‑beat European getaways

A recent poll of 2,000 British holidaymakers shows a sharp shift toward domestic travel this summer. More than half (54%) have booked staycations, and 67% want to avoid busy airports. Cost, convenience and flexibility are driving factors, with 32% preferring destinations nearer the UK and 37% choosing a road‑trip over overseas travel. The most popular UK spots are the Scottish Highlands, the Lake District and Cornwall.

Stansted Airport is promoting five lesser‑known European destinations as alternatives for last‑minute trips: Gdańsk in Poland, Kalamata on the Greek mainland, Brno in the Czech Republic, Perugia in Italy and Santander in Spain. These cities offer cultural attractions, beaches and good value, providing British travellers with off‑beat options that are easily reachable via direct flights from Stansted.
