UK urban redevelopment: New planning submissions in Birmingham and London

Two major urban redevelopment projects have entered the planning stages in the United Kingdom.

In Birmingham, Glancy Nicholls Architects and Wavensmere Homes have submitted a planning application to the Birmingham City Council for the £45 million transformation of the former Clarendon Suites site in Edgbaston. The project aims to create a residential neighborhood featuring 165 homes, including 75 three-bedroom townhouses and 90 one- and two-bedroom apartments. The development focuses on sustainability, targeting an EPC rating of A and incorporating the Future Homes Standard.

In London, developer Arada London, in collaboration with The Salvation Army, has submitted planning for a mixed-use development at 101 Newington Causeway in Elephant and Castle. Designed by PLP Architecture, the project proposes a 400-room hotel, over 700 co-living units, and dedicated co-working spaces. The site, formerly the Territorial Headquarters of The Salvation Army, is intended to feature enhanced public green spaces and low-carbon construction systems.
