UK warns two-state solution is being eroded by ground realities

UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has warned that the prospects for a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians are being destroyed by realities on the ground. Speaking at a ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in New York, Miliband cited developments such as the E1 settlement project in the occupied West Bank as major obstacles.

Miliband also expressed concern over the obstruction of essential medical supplies in the Gaza Strip, stating that children dying while awaiting treatment should shame the international community.

During the meeting, other international officials voiced similar concerns. Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi warned that failing to realize a two-state framework could result in a single-state reality defined by severe discrimination. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty criticized the current Israeli government's retreat from peace commitments, while Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares argued that granting Palestine full UN membership would be a decisive step toward stability. Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira emphasized that security and reconstruction should not be prerequisites for Palestinian self-determination.
