UK weather forecast: Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected midweek
The United Kingdom is expected to experience increasingly unsettled weather starting Wednesday, with a heightened risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and localized flooding. In North Wales, areas including Conwy, Gwynedd, Denbighshire, and Anglesey are particularly at risk. Some parts of Gwynedd may see more than 32mm of rainfall in a single evening, while slow-moving thunderstorms could dump up to 60mm locally, potentially causing surface water and hazardous driving conditions.
Across the wider UK, widespread downpours are forecasted for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland from Wednesday through Friday. While Scotland is expected to remain mostly dry, southern England and Wales face a higher risk of flooding as heavy rain falls on dry, hard ground. Although the incoming rain may assist with soil moisture and river levels, experts note that significant recovery from previous drought conditions will take time.
