UKC Ljubljana investigates patient privacy breach
The University Clinical Centre (UKC) Ljubljana is investigating an incident in which an employee shared unauthorized photographs of patients with at least one other person. The leaked images reportedly included a patient with severe burns, a sleeping patient following an amputation, and documentation containing sensitive personal data.
UKC Ljubljana confirmed the breach and stated that they have notified the Information Commissioner and the Patient Rights Representative. The hospital has taken disciplinary action, issuing a written warning to the employee, transferring them to a different work environment under supervision without phone access, and mandating additional training. The institution expressed regret for the incident and planned to personally inform the affected patients.
Patient Rights Representative Marjan Sušelj described the incident as a “gross violation of patient privacy.” The Chamber of Health and Midwifery is also reviewing the documentation to determine further proceedings.
