UKC Maribor opens new 59-bed nursing hospital at Slivniško Pohorje
UKC Maribor has officially opened a new nursing hospital at Slivniško Pohorje, repurposing a former pulmonary department. The facility provides 59 beds dedicated to patients who have completed acute treatment but require continued medical care, rehabilitation, or support before returning home.
The opening aims to alleviate pressure on the main clinical center, which faces bed shortages due to an increasing number of elderly and chronically ill patients. Management noted that difficulties in placing patients in elderly care homes often result in patients remaining in acute hospital settings for months.
The first patient was admitted on Tuesday, November 3. While the facility has the capacity for more patients, staff levels currently support approximately ten individuals. Management intends to increase capacity gradually, prioritizing the recruitment of qualified personnel to maintain care quality. This project is part of a broader infrastructure renovation at the hospital, which includes planned updates to oncology services.
