Żukowo pushes integrated public transport ahead of Pomeranian metropolitan talks

The municipality of Żukowo in Poland is preparing changes to its public‑transport system as part of discussions on creating a metropolitan union in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Local officials are examining how to combine bus and rail lines, introduce a common metropolitan ticket and harmonise fares and discounts across the 61 municipalities that form the Gdańsk‑Gdynia‑Sopot metropolitan area. Mayor Mariola Zmudzińska said the aim is to make travel to work, school, medical appointments and transfers easier for residents.

An open consultation meeting is scheduled for 18 August 2026 at the University of Gdańsk’s Faculty of Philology, with an online broadcast option. The session will cover integration of public transport, financing of the new metropolitan structure, decision‑making rules and support for smaller gminas. The law that launched the formal procedure for establishing the metropolitan union entered into force on 31 July 2026.
