Ukraine adopts corporate KPI strategy to boost Russian casualties

Ukraine has introduced a corporate‑style performance system to increase the cost of Russia's war. Under a plan devised by former defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov, the Ukrainian military tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) such as killing at least 50,000 Russian troops each month and eliminating 200 soldiers for every square kilometre of territory seized. The strategy includes a “mathematics of war” initiative that awards “ePoints” to drone operators who submit video evidence of successful strikes; points can be exchanged for additional combat drones. RAND researchers Gian Gentile and Andrew Radin say the approach has driven a casualty ratio that has risen to roughly 8 to 1 in Ukraine’s favour, with Russian losses now exceeding the Kremlin’s recruitment capacity. Total casualties on both sides have surpassed two million since the February 2022 invasion, marking the highest battlefield death toll for a major power since World War II.
