Ukraine recaptures 277 sq km in Donbas via Operation Vivaldi

Ukraine has reported significant territorial gains in the eastern Donbas region through a four-stage counter-offensive known as Operation Vivaldi. Ukrainian authorities claim the operation has recaptured 277 square kilometers and liberated 16 settlements, successfully blunting Russian attempts to encircle key cities in the Fortress Belt.

Ukrainian military command estimates that the offensive resulted in 8,000 Russian casualties, contributing to a total of nearly 50,000 Russian casualties along the front during September. The campaign utilized advanced technology, including drones and remote-controlled explosive vehicles, the latter of which reportedly led to the surrender of 250 Russian soldiers. However, the military has expressed concern regarding recent unannounced restrictions on the Starlink satellite system, which is vital for drone coordination and battlefield connectivity.

On the technological front, Ukrainian-made FP-2 drones are being deployed to target Russian forces and oil exports. Meanwhile, the French military is reportedly observing Ukrainian combat tactics, particularly the use of FPV drones, to adapt their own equipment and methods for modern warfare.
