Moldova advances EU integration through security and legislative reforms
Moldova is accelerating its European integration efforts through legislative reforms and enhanced security cooperation. The Parliament has passed first-reading laws to align with the Prüm II mechanism, which will allow for the automated exchange of police data—including DNA profiles, fingerprints, and vehicle information—with EU member states to combat cross-border crime. The implementation of international DNA data exchange is expected to coincide with Moldova's eventual EU accession.
In terms of the broader accession process, Marcel Spatari, President of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration, stated that Moldova aims to open all negotiation clusters this autumn. He noted that the country is working to transpose approximately 300 laws into national legislation this year to meet EU standards. While Moldova and Ukraine are coordinating their efforts and supporting each other's paths, officials emphasized that the EU evaluates each candidate state individually based on its own merits.
