Ukraine and Germany to cooperate on digital government and AI
Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation Oksana Fedorova met with German counterpart Karsten Wildberger in Berlin to discuss cooperation regarding digital governance and artificial intelligence. The discussions focused on how Germany might adopt lessons from Ukraine’s advanced digital administration systems.
Ukraine utilizes the Diia platform, an ecosystem comprising a mobile app, web portal, and physical service locations. Through Diia, citizens can access over 30 digital documents, including passports, driver’s licenses, and tax IDs. The platform also facilitates various administrative tasks such as selling vehicles, managing driving permissions, paying fines, and processing marriages or divorces online.
Both nations agreed to establish expert teams to evaluate Ukraine’s digital successes and failures to determine which solutions could be implemented in Germany. Fedorova also suggested that Ukraine could serve as an ‘AI sandbox’ for Europe, particularly as the EU develops its own digital identity wallet initiatives.
