Ukraine and United States pledge to accelerate peace negotiations

Ukrainian presidential chief Kyrylo Budanov said that a delegation from Ukraine met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on 28 July. The meeting, which also involved Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, resulted in an agreement to intensify negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. Budanov posted on X that both sides understand the need for a swift, fair settlement and will accelerate diplomatic talks at all levels.

The U.S. delegation included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury official Scott Bessent and other senior officials. Budanov also noted earlier statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who on 28 June said Russia was ready to continue dialogue with the United States after the Iran‑related phase of talks ended, and referenced a previous Anchorage meeting in August 2025. However, the U.S. State Department later said no agreement on Ukraine was reached in Alaska.

The development signals a renewed diplomatic push involving Ukraine, the United States and Russia to seek a negotiated end to the conflict.
