Ukraine approves October long-range strike plan amid energy ceasefire deadlock

Ukraine and Russia remain deadlocked over a proposed ceasefire regarding energy infrastructure. While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed support for an energy truce—contingent on Russia ceasing attacks on Ukraine’s power, heat, and water systems—the Kremlin has not provided public indications of readiness to accept such an agreement.

In response to the ongoing conflict, President Zelenskyy has approved a new set of long-range operations for October, targeting energy, logistics, and military sites within Russia. This escalation coincides with Ukraine’s efforts to bolster its air defenses ahead of winter. Zelenskyy confirmed an agreement with Belgium to transfer three F-16 fighter jets by the end of 2026, noting that urgent ammunition shipments from Belgium and Spain have already arrived.

Additionally, Ukrainian officials are working to develop an interceptor to counter Russia’s jet-powered Shahed drone variants. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts involving U.S. President Donald Trump have highlighted a gap between public discussions of a ceasefire and the reality of continued military preparations, including Ukraine’s requests for a ‘winter package’ of Patriot missiles.
