Ukraine: Russian strikes kill eight civilians in overnight attacks
Russian drone and missile strikes across Ukraine killed at least eight civilians during overnight attacks. In the northeastern Kharkiv region, six agricultural workers were killed and 12 others wounded at a vegetable storage facility. In the capital, Kyiv, a man and a woman died as strikes hit residential buildings, energy infrastructure, and a maternity clinic. While no medical staff or patients were injured at the clinic, the attack caused significant damage to civilian sites.
The aerial campaign, which included 282 drones and various ballistic and hypersonic missiles, occurred as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the UN General Assembly in New York. Zelensky called for increased international sanctions to deprive Russia of the funds necessary to sustain its invasion.
In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is seeking a comprehensive peace agreement rather than a temporary truce. Russia continues to demand territorial concessions, a position Kyiv rejects. The conflict has also seen regional spillover, with reports of Russian drones entering Moldovan airspace and a drone crashing near the Romanian border.
