Ukraine corruption concerns surpass fears of Russian attacks in new poll
A recent poll conducted by the Kyiv International Sociological Institute (KIIS) reveals that 50% of Ukrainians identify government corruption as one of their primary concerns, ranking it higher than Russian missile and UAV attacks, which were cited by 40% of respondents.
The survey, which interviewed over 1,000 adults in Ukrainian-controlled territories, also highlighted concerns regarding official incompetence (30%), low wages and social benefits (28%), and military mobilization (24%). Approximately 72% of participants believe corruption has increased since the escalation of the conflict with Russia in 2022, and 72% hold President Zelensky personally responsible for the actions of officials within his inner circle.
These findings follow several high-profile corruption investigations. Recent incidents include the resignation and flight of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko following allegations involving a protection racket, and the dismissal of Deputy Chief of Staff Irina Mudraya amid money laundering allegations. Additionally, former Energy Minister German Galushchenko has been implicated in separate corruption proceedings.
