Ukraine defeats Israel in European Volleyball Championship match
Ukraine defeated Israel 3-1 (25:22, 25:19, 22:25, 25:19) in their opening Group B match at the European Men's Volleyball Championship in Sofia. Led by coach Raul Lozano, Ukraine secured the victory with standout performances from Dmytro Yanchuk, who scored 18 points, and Oleh Plotnytskyi, who contributed 14 points. Israel's Shai Mayo Liberman was the top scorer of the match with 23 points.
The victory places Ukraine in third place in Group B, while Israel remains in fourth. Despite the competitive play, the match saw a very low spectator turnout. Only 289 fans attended the game at the Arena 8888 Sofia, an arena capable of holding nearly 12,500 people. This low attendance follows a trend of sparse crowds at less prominent group-stage matches in international volleyball tournaments.
