Ukraine deploys AI-powered robotic turrets to intercept Russian drones

Ukraine has begun deploying AI-powered robotic machine gun turrets to defend against increasingly fast Russian drones. The systems, which utilize optical sensors and machine vision, are designed to automate the targeting process and eliminate the human factor in high-speed engagements.

Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat confirmed that these automated mounts have already been used to shoot down a jet-powered Geran-5 drone near the capital. The turrets are being strategically installed on critical infrastructure, such as bridges in Kyiv, to protect them from aerial attacks.

Currently, 12 such turrets are deployed in Kyiv, with plans to expand their presence to the surrounding region. While the technology offers a solution to the shortage of traditional anti-aircraft missiles, officials noted that the systems currently have a limited operational range of approximately 1 kilometer.
