Ukraine deploys Lima electronic warfare system to intercept Russian missiles

Ukraine is utilizing advanced electronic warfare technology to counter Russian aerial threats. The specialized Lima suppression system, operated by the elite Night Watch unit, has successfully intercepted high-speed munitions. In one instance, the system emitted false navigation signals to redirect a Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missile, causing it to break apart due to the stress of its own velocity. The Lima system can operate at distances of nearly 200 kilometers to disrupt the guidance of drones, guided bombs, and missiles.

This technological deployment comes amid intensified Russian aerial campaigns against Ukrainian cities. Kyiv has recently faced multiple waves of attacks involving ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and jet-powered drones. Recent strikes in Kyiv have resulted in damage to warehouse facilities, non-residential areas, and residential districts, with drone debris causing fires in several city sectors. While electronic warfare does not replace traditional interceptor systems like the Patriot, it provides a more cost-effective layer of defense as Ukrainian manufacturers scale up production of electronic suppression devices.
