Ukraine detains organizer of Kyiv weapons expo after deadly Russian missile strike

Russian ballistic missiles hit a weapons exhibition held near Kyiv on 16 July 2026, killing 10‑11 people and wounding about a hundred. The event, organized by the arms association Armada in Kapitanivka (Bucha district), showcased anti‑air‑defence systems and unmanned‑aircraft technology and was attended by over 300 officials, soldiers and foreign partners.

Ukrainian prosecutors arrested the organizer on suspicion of negligence, noting that the gathering lacked the required permit and that the shelter for attendees was insufficient, being only 34 m² and located about 100 m from the target. Prosecutor Ivan Varanycia and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the holding of large arms fairs during wartime and accused Russia of responsibility for the casualties.
