Bucha district warehouse strike kills at least 37 people
A Russian drone strike on a warehouse in the Bucha district near Kyiv has resulted in a significant loss of life and widespread destruction. While initial reports cited 27 deaths, updated figures from Kyiv regional military administration chief Timur Tkachenko indicate the death toll has risen to at least 37 people. At least 42 others were injured, including four children.
The strike, which occurred in the village of Myla, triggered massive secondary explosions and fires that damaged approximately 50 residential buildings, a restaurant, and a facility for the elderly and people with disabilities. Over 380 residents were evacuated from the area.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned the incident, noting that munitions are strictly prohibited from being stored near residential areas. Consequently, the Prosecutor General's Office has launched a criminal investigation into potential official negligence regarding the legality of the storage and the necessary permits for the facility.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed the strike targeted a logistics center containing components for long-range drones and cruise missiles.
