Ukraine economy faces crisis from Russian infrastructure attacks

Ukraine is facing a severe fiscal crisis as intensified Russian attacks on infrastructure and key export industries threaten the national economy. Ukrainian Economy Minister Oleksandr Kravchenko reported that infrastructure damage from Russian airstrikes has reached approximately $10 billion since the beginning of the year.

The broader economic impact of these attacks, combined with the de facto blockade of Ukrainian Black Sea ports, is estimated to cost roughly 1.5 percentage points of the country's GDP. Kravchenko warned of a difficult winter ahead due to the daily destruction of critical infrastructure and limited budgetary margins.

The blockade of Black Sea ports puts approximately $40 billion in export revenues at risk, specifically affecting the movement of agricultural products, iron, and steel. Additionally, domestic budget revenues are under pressure, with a reported shortfall of $1.35 billion as strikes continue to disrupt industrial operations and state services.
