Ukraine expresses readiness for negotiations with Russia

Serhiy Kyslytsya, deputy chief of staff for Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has stated that refusing negotiations with Russia could be dangerous for Ukraine. He emphasized that diplomacy must function under all circumstances and that Kyiv is prepared to sit at the negotiating table to resolve the conflict, listen to the position of the United States, and defend its own arguments.

Ukraine is currently awaiting a visit from American negotiators to help restart the dialogue, which is presently on pause. This follows statements from Vladimir Putin in late June expressing Russia's readiness for peace talks based on the 2022 Istanbul agreements. Previous rounds of direct negotiations in Istanbul during 2025 resulted in prisoner exchanges and the transfer of deceased soldiers.

Simultaneously, Russia faces significant challenges in August, including Ukrainian drone attacks and economic pressures. Recent large-scale drone strikes targeting Moscow and other regions have been reported, alongside rising civilian casualties and domestic political difficulties.
