Ukraine faces economic strain from Russian attacks on data centers and agriculture

The Ukrainian economy is facing severe pressure due to intensified Russian attacks targeting both physical and digital infrastructure. In Kyiv, Russian drone campaigns have expanded to include data centers, which serve as critical communication hubs and archives for various sectors. These strikes threaten to paralyze banking, government services, and retail by disabling the digital infrastructure that supports them. Recent attacks have already left up to 100,000 households in the Kyiv region without internet access.

Simultaneously, the agricultural sector is struggling with high risks and economic instability. Farmers face constant threats from drones, aircraft, and unexploded ordnance during harvests. Beyond physical safety, the industry is burdened by rising fuel costs, labor shortages, and low domestic purchase prices. Because Black Sea ports remain largely inaccessible due to security concerns, grain and oil must be transported via much more expensive and less efficient land and river routes. This logistical bottleneck has caused domestic prices for commodities like wheat to fall below production costs, threatening the survival of many agricultural producers.
