Ukraine faces massive Shahed drone attacks and conducts retaliatory strikes in Crimea
Ukraine is facing intensified aerial warfare as Russia launched a massive strike using 76 Shahed combat drones. The attack heavily targeted the Kyiv region, prompting multiple air raid alarms within a 24-hour period. While Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted over 70 of these drones, some debris fell in residential areas, including the Dnipro district of Kyiv. The strikes also impacted energy infrastructure, with the private company DTEK reporting that a thermal power plant was forced to cease all electricity production following a direct hit.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian defense forces conducted retaliatory strikes against Russian military assets in occupied Crimea and the Kherson region. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, these operations targeted critical infrastructure, including drone launch sites, warehouses, and ground control stations for Orion UAVs. Ukrainian forces also struck air defense positions near Feodosia, potentially damaging S-300 or S-400 systems used to protect the Kerch Bridge, and hit communication points for UAV repeaters on the Tendrivska Spit in the Black Sea.
