Ukraine faces missile shortages and evolving drone threats

Ukraine is facing significant challenges in securing air defense capabilities and adapting its armored warfare strategies due to the evolving nature of the conflict. The country is struggling to obtain Patriot interceptor missiles, as Western partners face their own shortages. While Germany, Poland, Romania, Spain, and the Netherlands have provided some components, Germany has reported a shortage in its own stockpiles. Efforts to secure missiles from Japan and South Korea have not yielded immediate results, and the United States is focused on replenishing its own reserves amid Middle East tensions.

On the battlefield, the rapid advancement of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is altering the utility of traditional heavy armor. Although Ukraine received modern Western tanks like the Leopard 2, many are being held behind the front lines to avoid destruction by inexpensive First-Person View (FPV) drones. This shift has led to a change in personnel training, with crews increasingly focusing on UAV operations to counter the threat posed by drone-dominated combat environments.
