Ukraine is facing its most significant domestic political crisis since the 2022 Russian invasion due to a series of high-level leadership changes initiated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The instability began in mid-July with the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko, followed by the dismissal of Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov after only six months in office. Fedorov attributed his departure to resistance against public procurement reforms, accusing former Supreme Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi of obstructing these changes.

In response to widespread public protests demanding Fedorov's reinstatement, Zelenskyy dismissed Syrskyi and appointed General Mykhailo Drapiy as the new Supreme Commander. Additionally, Serhiy Koreckyi, formerly the head of Naftogaz, has been confirmed as the new Prime Minister. Rustem Umerov, the former Defense Minister, has been appointed as the new head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, while Ihor Klimenko has taken over as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.

Despite these shifts, the Ministry of Defense remains without a permanent minister. Analysts suggest that while the dismissal of Syrskyi temporarily calmed some unrest, the core demands of protesters remain unmet, potentially leading to a prolonged period of political instability.
