Ukraine front: Russian forces occupy border strip in Sumy and deploy new drone tactics
In the Sumy region of Ukraine, Russian forces have occupied a border strip approximately two to four kilometers deep. While Ukrainian military spokesperson Viktor Trehubov confirmed the existence of this occupied zone, he noted that the situation remains stable and Ukrainian defenders have successfully prevented further expansion of this specific corridor.
In the Donetsk region, the Ukrainian 3rd Army Corps has acknowledged the existence of ‘Operation Vivaldi’ near Lyman, a mission that had previously remained undisclosed for four months. Meanwhile, in the Kupiansk area, fighting has intensified, with reports describing the zone as a landscape of ruins where infantry and drones engage in constant combat.
Technological shifts are also evident on the battlefield. Russian forces have reportedly utilized specialized drone crews from the Rubikon unit to create a ‘drone umbrella’ over advancing infantry, attempting to intercept Ukrainian FPV drones in mid-air. This tactic represents an evolving approach to using drone defense as a support mechanism for offensive operations.
