Ukraine Hits Iranian Ship in Caspian Sea Before Zelensky's US Visit

Ukraine struck an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, an action senior researcher Yuri Lyamin says was intended to demonstrate Ukraine's importance to the United States ahead of President Volodymyr Zelensky's planned visit to Washington. Lyamin suggested the strike could be a bid to secure additional ballistic‑missile defence systems from the US.

Iran's foreign ministry, represented by spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, condemned the attack as deliberate and warned that Tehran would hold Kyiv accountable for the incident.
