Kelowna to host Ukraine war virtual reality museum
The ‘War Up Close’ initiative is bringing a virtual reality museum and Children’s Art Showcase to Kelowna, Canada, on August 22. Held at The Rotary Centre for the Arts, the exhibition commemorates Ukraine’s 35th year of independence.
The exhibition utilizes 360-degree panoramic photography and drone footage to provide an immersive experience of war zones. According to project coordinator Olena Heichenko, the visuals focus on the destruction of cities, schools, museums, and hospitals rather than depicting blood or deceased individuals. Co-founder and photographer Mykola Omelchenko stated that the materials serve as factual visual evidence to document the reality of the conflict and preserve proof of crimes against civilians.
Admission to the event is free, though organizers encourage donations to support the continued travel of the exhibition, which has previously been hosted across North America and Europe.
